Manor houses in Mazovia: Budziszyn

The village of Budziszyn (not to be confused with the Polish name for the German town of Bautzen) is located south of Warsaw in the municipality of Chynów.

In the village there is a manor from the first half of the 19th century. It is in essence a plain classical building on a rectangular ground plan with a high basement. Through changing owners it was changed several times until the 20th century. The two neo-Gothic lancet windows at the main entrance appear somewhat unusual.

The four-column portico was added just in the interwar period, when the Polish manor house style was widespread. In this regional architectural style, individual features were reinterpreted following the example of great palaces and mansions of the 18th and 19th centuries. At that time, young and inexperienced architects were often involved in such reconstruction projects. As a result, in the opinion of some art historians, the work often fell short of the historical models in terms of detail and execution, which is why these houses are sometimes judged disparagingly.

In our opinion, this has no decisive influence on the overall image and worthiness of preservation. It is the individual history with its peculiarities and deficiencies that form the character of such a house. This is also the view of the Polish monument authorities, which is why the house and park are a registered monument in Poland.
