Castle in Plaue, Brandenburg
Plaue Castle is an unrenovated castle in the German state of Brandenburg. It is located in the Plaue district of the same name in the city of Brandenburg an der Havel.
The baroque two-wing building was built in 1716 by Friedrich von Görne.
In the post-war years, it served as a recreation home and military hospital, among other things. In GDR times, the castle was heavily rebuilt and housed a language school. At the beginning of the 1990s, it came into the possession of the state of Brandenburg. Until today there have been several changes of ownership.
Despite the touristically developed location directly on the Havel River, Plaue Castle remains unrenovated to this day. In the castle, apart from the baroque staircase, only little has been preserved from the time of its origin. On the upper floor is a ballroom that extends over two floors and today presents itself unadorned with smooth plastered walls.
In 2021, there were plans to implement a concept for assisted living, as the "Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung" wrote in June 2016. At the beginning of 2022, it became known that Plaue Castle would be auctioned off on June 22, 2022.
