The town of Mirow is the heart of the Mecklenburgische Kleinseenplatte. Countless lakes, the proximity to the Müritz National Park and the direct waterway connection to the Müritz, as well as via the Havel waterway to the Berlin waters, characterize the location. South of the castle island and surrounded by water on two sides is the complex of the "Lower Castle". The castle was probably built around 1735 and served as a residence for the non-ruling Mecklenburg Duke Karl. Among others, the later English Queen Charlotte was born here.

The two-storey house is still today a very stately building with 15 axes and characterizes the townscape of the small town. Except for the roof, the baroque exterior of the castle has not been changed much. Inside, the house was first changed in 1766 and then several times over the centuries. The last alterations for school use determine the current floor plan. The house has a partial basement and the roof has been partially extended. All supply and disposal lines are connected.

The single-storey half-timbered outbuilding probably also dates from the 18th century. (Hawthorn house). The building, constructed of mighty oak beams, could originally have been a side wing of the castle. The house is now completely gutted, but is now in a bad condition. The courtyard building, which housed the former elementary school, was built around 1920 and also has a partial basement. Also parts of the attic are developed. The former fire department building consists of two parts. The older one with the imposing hose tower was built in 1926, the larger garage room in 1950.

The park-like property with the large inner courtyard is connected to the waterway rest area to the north and to the west to the wharf of the White Fleet. A permanent use of this water connection for the castle ensemble is quite possible. The southern boundary is formed by the street front, which has been built with a demolished former janitor's house; the ensemble is certainly very well suited for tourist use due to its authentic historical background, its favorable location and its short distances to the highlights of the Mecklenburg Lake District.
