The Sobańskich Palace in Guzów
The voivodeship Mazovia is not necessarily one of the most beautiful regions of Poland in terms of tourism - apart from the capital Warsaw. However, anyone interested in castles and manor houses should take a closer look away from the capital. Magnate families and the Polish minor nobility had representative castles and palaces built in the rural corners of the region.
Here, the Sobański Palace in Guzów is one of the few architectural examples of the French Renaissance in Mazovia. Landowner Count Feliks Sobański had the imposing building erected in 1880 by Polish architect Wladyslaw Hirszel, after a Baroque manor house had already stood on the site.
Descendants of the family bought back the castle and park from the municipality back in the 1990s. In 2016, a foundation was established and the first reconstruction measures were carried out. The historic English-style park has already been restored at a cost of over 4 million złoty ( ~ 1 million euros). The attached chapel of the castle was also renovated.
It is not the first castle in Poland that, after decades of vacancy and decay, can now look forward to a new future - and become a reference project for other historic vacant properties in Mazovia.
We regularly feature recent developments and older shots on our instagram channel, where the extraordinary Neo-Renaissance mansion generates a lot of interest and interaction.
