Stately neogothic chateau in Bezděkov, Klatovy district, Pilsen region
Based on the remains of a Gothic moated castle of the 14th century, a renaissance palace was built in the 16th century, followed by a completely neogothic reconstruction in the middle of the 19th century, when it became the residence of the Bohemian noble family "von Weidenheim" ("Korbové z Weidenheimu"). The architect of this last redesign was Ignác Ullmann, who was also responsible for numerous historicist buildings in Prague.The massive, opulent square four-wing building has a small inner courtyard and is also predominantly neogothic on the inside. Especially worth seeing is the spacious entrance hall with cross-ribbed ceilings and the large, paneled staircase.
After the war, the property was nationalized along with the farm buildings and outbuildings and served, among other things, as a nursing home. Since the early 1990s, the castle complex has stood empty with changing owners. In 2016, Bezděkov Castle was finally sold to a Czech engineering company. A redevelopment with partial public use is planned. Work started at the beginning of 2020, the property is currently not accessible by visitors.
