Classical Château with a View of the Seine and Paris

Classical Palais/Music Pavilion of Madame du Barry in Louveciennes by Claude Nicolas Ledoux (1736-1806) 
 

This pavilion, the meeting place of King Louis XV and his mistress, Countess du Barry, was built as a venue for games, festivities, and relaxation in romantic seclusion away from the court. It stands out for its monumental architecture, which is unusual for a pleasure building.
 

Designed like an ancient temple with a nearly square layout, the pavilion offers an exceptional view of the Seine, Paris, and the western outskirts of the city, which was already considered remarkable in the 18th century.

Countess du Barry, known for her extraordinary beauty, was the lover of Louis XV, who frequently visited her in Louveciennes.

The pavilion includes:

• A series of grand salons on the ground floor (music room, king's salon, round salon, oval salon)
• A first floor designed by Charles-Édouard Mewès
• Spacious basements (swimming pool, independent apartment?)

Artistic details:

• Semi-circular relief by Félix Lecomte (1737-1817)
• Reliefs by Augustin Pajou (1730-1809)
• Richly carved woodwork by Honoré Guibert (1721-1790)
• Magnificent window fastenings by Pierre Gouthière (1732-1813)

The pavilion was completely dismantled and rebuilt between January 1930 and March 1932 by François Coty in collaboration with architect Charles-Édouard Mewès.
