Ruined Manor in Unia, Greater Poland
Historic Wielkopolska, with its vast agricultural areas, is one of the Polish voivodeships with the highest density of palaces and manor houses. About 1,500 historical residences are spread over a large area in the rural areas around the capital city of Poznan.
The settlement of Unia is located east of Września and in 1914 it belonged to the province of Poznań, the eastern part of the Kingdom of Prussia. At that time, the palace of the Chrzanowski family there received its current eclectic appearance by the Poznan architect Kazimierz Ruciński.
Ruciński designed the two-story building with irregular one-story side wings. On the garden side, the main part is flanked by two octagonal towers. In addition, the central part received a characteristic attic, the side wings a circumferential balustrade. The Chrzanowski coat of arms can still be seen in the tympanum.
A rehabilitation center was supposed to be built here as early as the end of the 1980s, but the project remained unfinished due to the political change. Since that time the building has been empty and "hollowed out". In the meantime, new securing work suggests that a new edition of a reconstruction is planned.
