Beautiful Masuria: Former farm in Perły

Tips for vacationers and prospective buyers of real estate in Masuria

Today's Warmia-Masuria in northeast Poland is known for its numerous lakes, meadows and forests. Who besides water sports especially is looking for peace and quiet and finds cheap and charming alternatives to expensive hotels with lake view in popular summer hotspots in rural areas like Giżycko. Many former farms offer inexpensive overnight accomodation and also the today so important Internet connection is in many rural areas more than sufficient these days. The region is mainly flat and therefore ideal for extensive bicycle tours.

For those interested in history and culture, there are numerous castles and manor houses to discover in addition to relics of the Second World War:
Between top renovated and touristically accessible manor houses such as Nakomiady Castle there are many historic houses are still in a twilight sleep today. Some of them seem irrevocably lost, others offer quite still chances for dropouts or investors with "thick skin" and good business ideas.

However, the times of bargain real estate in Masuria are largely over. Good real estate and plots of land at low prices are hard to find without a long search and local contacts. If you are looking for a beautiful house or a special property in Poland, you should generally not rely exclusively on real estate portals. Often houses are not offered on Internet portals for the purchase and sometimes the called real estate prices lie even clearly over the actual market value.

Therefore, drive through the countryside, talk to locals and keep an eye out for potential properties yourself.

If you want to buy and develop a special real estate in the north of Poland today, you should be able to negotiate skilfully. Knowledge of the Polish real estate market as well as the laws is also absolutely necessary. Only who is sufficiently informed about the legal situation, can make the most of the possibilities when buying a property in Poland and save (legally) taxes. A good Polish lawyer can give you comprehensive advice on this.

The photo shows a former agricultural estate in Perły ("Perlswalde" in former East Prussia), which houses today a charming boutique hotel. The farm has been lovingly renovated and is situated in an unspoiled, secluded location near the border to Kaliningrad. In the village there is also a manor house from the early 20th century, which is used for residential purposes.
