Like a haunted mansion: Château in Crissey, Burgundy
Impressive castle, abandoned and unused since 2005.
The castle in Crissey was built in 1854 in the neo-classical style on four floors of approximately 300 m² (basement, ground floor, two upper floors). Inside, there is a monumental double staircase illuminated by a skylight. In 1937, the town of Dole acquired Crissey Castle and its outbuildings from Mrs Anne-Marie du Bois Jagu de la Villerabel. At that time, the site covered more than ten hectares and the town was considering the creation of a retirement home and sports grounds. So far, only a partial objective has been achieved (construction of an aqua park, climbing park, tennis and basketball courts). After various occupations, the last of which was used for school purposes until 2005, the castle and its outbuildings are now unused. At the end of 2007, the town decided to sell the complex (excluding the sports facilities). Of the original property, a property of approximately 18,500 m², which is inseparably connected with the castle, is now preserved.
