Castles and villas in Rhineland-Palatinate: Waldthausen
Schloss Waldthausen, Mainz
Schloss Waldthausen is located between the Rhineland-Palatinate capital Mainz and Budenheim. The castle-like villa belonged to the estate of the Waldthausen industrialist family, which was active in several economic sectors, including textile trade, coal and banking. The builder was Baron Martin Wilhelm von Waldthausen at the beginning of the 20th century. The villa is a typical example of the Historimus of the German Kaisserreich, which often adopted the formal language of Staufer castle construction.
In the early 1980s, the association of savings banks Rheinland-Pfalz acquired the historic property. In the years that followed, the castle served as a training center and was heavily modernized, causing the building to lose much of its historic charm, particularly on the inside.
