Discover a Remarkable 19th Century Galician Estate in the Heart of the Renowned Ribeiro Wine Region
Nestled within the gentle hills of Carballeda de Avia, this stunning 19th-century estate is located in the prestigious Ribeiro wine region of Galicia, Spain. Retaining its original architectural charm, the property features traditional galleries, intricate woodwork, and even an ancient watchtower, offering a unique glimpse into the region's rich heritage. With three main entrances, the estate leads to the main residence and the surrounding vineyards, where thick stone walls and meticulously preserved interiors echo the region's storied past.
Main Residence
On the left side of the house, two primary entrances open into a spacious hallway with exposed stone walls and a welcoming fireplace. The hallway leads to three large double bedrooms, each featuring wooden ceilings and French windows that bring in abundant natural light. In this section, you'll also find two fully-equipped bathrooms, a generous dining area, and a staircase that leads to a tower with two additional bedrooms.
A separate entrance opens into the large, fully-equipped country kitchen with a pantry and breakfast nook, which is seamlessly connected to the main hallway. Adjacent to the kitchen, a charming living and dining area offers a cozy retreat. The house also includes a laundry room, a natural swimming pool fed by fresh spring water from the mountains, and an open stone oven/grill, perfect for barbecuing or drying food.
On the right side, a private section of the house provides a comfortable living space for staff. The ground floor also features a historic wine cellar and various storage rooms.
The Wine Cellar ("Bodega")
The 19th-century wine cellar is a rare treasure, designed for artisanal wine production free from additives. The unique microclimate, nutrient-rich soil, and protective stone walls create ideal conditions for producing exceptional wines, which have been recognized with prestigious awards from both the Ribeiro Wine Association and the National Wine Association.
Inside, traditional clay walls and a wooden ceiling maintain optimal humidity and temperature levels, allowing wines to mature over decades. The original ceramic fermentation tanks and well-preserved Carballo oak barrels are among the few of their kind still in perfect condition. The wine cellar also houses an entirely intact 18th-century wine press.
Outdoor Area and Garden
A covered terrace in front of the main house invites you to relax and enjoy the picturesque surroundings, offering stunning views of the charming stone facade and the lush landscape. The 3,817 m² plot includes a well-maintained courtyard, mature grapevines, fruit trees, and plenty of space for a kitchen garden. Additionally, there is the opportunity to acquire extra agricultural land.
Location
The estate is situated in the village of Carballeda de Avia, surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, including the Ridimoas hiking trail, native forests, and a biosphere reserve with a diverse array of flora such as oak, willow, chestnut trees, and wild orchids. Close by, the Sierra de Pena Corneira, declared a natural monument in 2007, offers stunning protected landscapes.
The village center is equipped with all essential amenities, including a supermarket, health center, and pharmacy.
