The medieval Castle of Creixell, built in the 11th century, majestically rises on a prominent hill overlooking the sparkling sea. In recent decades, it has served as a private summer residence and is now ready for a new life as a unique holiday home, boutique hotel, restaurant, or event venue.

The castle not only offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Mediterranean coast but also of the gentle surrounding mountains, completing the picture of an idyllic setting. From here, you can enjoy the tranquility and charm of bygone times.

HISTORY

Medieval sources indicate that the castle belonged to the Cluny Monastery, a Benedictine monastery, around 1015-1022. The current name first appears in the 12th century. In 1572, it belonged to the Sant Pere de Caserres Priory, when the last prior died, and King Philip II united the monastery and priory with the Jesuit College of Barcelona. From that time also comes the emblem of the Jesuits above the entrance door. In 1767, King Charles III expelled the Jesuits, and the castle became part of the royal heritage.

The military structure, still clearly visible today, dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries when defenses against frequent pirate attacks needed reinforcement.

Discover the vibrant stories hidden behind the ancient walls. According to historical accounts, Queen Isabella of Castile stayed here during one of her royal journeys in the 15th century, blessing the castle with her royal presence. The original bed she is said to have slept in still stands in one of the bedrooms. This majestic encounter adds another glorious chapter to the already rich history of this castle, echoing through its walls to this day.

The Castle of Creixell is not only a historical gem but also an architectural masterpiece. Its unique dry stone construction, recognized as intangible cultural heritage since 2018, gives it unparalleled beauty and authenticity.
