HISTORY
Medieval sources indicate that the castle belonged to the Cluny Monastery, a Benedictine monastery, around 1015-1022. The current name first appears in the 12th century. In 1572, it belonged to the Sant Pere de Caserres Priory, when the last prior died, and King Philip II united the monastery and priory with the Jesuit College of Barcelona. From that time also comes the emblem of the Jesuits above the entrance door. In 1767, King Charles III expelled the Jesuits, and the castle became part of the royal heritage.
The military structure, still clearly visible today, dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries when defenses against frequent pirate attacks needed reinforcement.

According to historical accounts, Queen Isabella of Castile stayed here during one of her royal journeys in the 15th century, blessing the castle with her royal presence. The original bed she is said to have slept in still stands in one of the bedrooms. LOCATION CASTLE IN CATALONIA
The castle is located in the heart of Creixell, a picturesque medieval coastal town on the enchanting Costa Dorada in the province of Tarragona/Catalonia.
Just a 5-minute drive from the beautiful sandy beach. From here, you can reach Barcelona Airport in just 45 minutes by car and the provincial capital of Tarragona in 20 minutes.
Tarragona offers visitors plenty of culture, history, culinary delights, and scenery. It also impresses with a large marina and a fascinating Roman downtown area, steeped in history and inviting for leisurely strolls.
The wine regions of Penedés, Montsant, and Priorat border the castle, offering top-quality wine and Cava. The Ebro Delta, famous for its unique nature and gastronomy, is also just an hour's drive away.

LAYOUT
The castle is accessible via a cobblestone driveway leading directly to the foyer. From here, paths lead to various areas of the castle, including the chapel, a small prison, the courtyard, and the main staircase leading to the upper floors.
These floors currently offer nine bedrooms, three bathrooms, a spacious salon, as well as an open-plan kitchen with an adjacent dining room. In addition to the charming gallery and the spacious rooftop terrace with sea views, the castle features a tower approximately 49 meters high, a library, a wine cellar, and a courtyard with a fountain.
Immerse yourself in the secrets behind the ancient walls as you stroll through the medieval ruins. Every corner of the castle holds history and legends, from the imposing tower to the hidden passages once connected to the coast and outer defense towers. All facades, except the west side, are crowned with battlements.
The castle's grounds also include a garden and an annex building, which dates back to the 14th century and houses an oil mill.
The current furniture, decorations, paintings, knight armors, etc., can be acquired by arrangement.
PROTECTED MONUMENT
The castle is registered as a monument in the "Registre de Béns Culturals d’Interès Nacional" of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
This declaration entails a series of rights and obligations for the owners: the right to full exemption from property tax, a 95% reduction in inheritance and lifetime acquisitions tax (property tax), the possibility of receiving grants, etc. Among the obligations is the duty to preserve, demolition is not allowed. Changing the use is allowed (excluding large commercial or industrial operations).
